18 months ago, a put up a post showing, with pictures, how to register a screenplay with the U.S. Copyright Office.
Now, for people who feel that still pictures are not enough, I have created a video that follows me as I register a screenplay with the U.S. Copyright Office. I’ve successfully registered my copyrights with your instructions on more than one occasion so thank you for that! But now, I came across a question for a new story I just wrote and want to register. I wrote the story in 2 different versions/derivatives in “short script form” and “short story form” and they are the same story with same plot/character. I wanna send both out at the same time for submissions. I understand that if I copyright the short story version then any other derivative such as a script would also be protected under that same copyright, but does it matter at all which version I choose to copyright? Any benefit with one over the other? I mean, I wouldn’t need to register both versions, would I?

You should register whichever one you finished first because the other version is a derivative. You don’t need to register both.
